The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum will host from October 18 the exhibition ‘Renoir: Intimacy’. This is the first retrospective in Spain around the figure of the Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919), with works from museums and collections around the world, which will be open until 22 January 2017.

As we advanced, next October 18 will begin the first major retrospective of Renoir in Spain under the title ‘Renoir: Intimacy’. For three months, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum will host this exhibition, in which highlights the central role that acquire the tactile sensations in his paintings and can be developed in different stages of his career, as well as in different genres like scenes group, portraits and nudes, still lifes and landscapes.

Curated by Guillermo Solana, artistic director of Madrid’s art gallery, the exhibition will allow you to see up to 77 works by the French artist from different museums and collections around the world as the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, the J. Paul Getty in Los Angeles, the National Gallery in London and the Metropolitan in New York.

articulo_renoir_thyssen-oct-2016Renoir: intimacy presents a thematic tour in five sections: impressionism, portraits, landscapes, family and domestic scenes, and bathers. Through them we can see how the artist made use of the tactile qualities of volume, material and textures as a vehicle to depict intimacy in its different forms – social intimacy, among friends and family, or erotic – and how that imagery connects the work and the viewer to the sensuality of the brushstroke and the pictorial surface.

Don’t miss this appointment with the ‘big’ art that has the patronage of Japan Tobacco International (JTI), and will be in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum until 22 January 2017.
