Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura Brings High Style to L.A. Dining

Branded in-store restaurants are more likely to be tourist traps than dining destinations–Tommy Bahama Cafe, anyone?–but leave it to Gucci to bring style and luxury to the genre. Opening on February 17, the Gucci Osteria da Mossimo Bottura, on the roof of the brand’s Rodeo Drive boutique, is set to be one of L.A.’s most fashionable new eateries.
This location is the second Gucci Osteria; the first is their popular outpost in Florence. The project grows out of a friendship that stretches back to childhood between Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri and celebrity chef Massimo Bottura, an icon of modern Italian cooking who may be best known in the States for his television appearances, including as the subject of the first-ever episode of Chef’s Table on Netflix and the documentary Theater of Life, which focuses on Bottura’s work in reducing food waste and feeding the homeless.
Serving as the chef de cuisine at the Beverly Hills restaurant will be Mattia Agazzi, who was previously the sous chef at the Florence restaurant. In that kitchen, he worked under Chef Karime López, the first Mexican woman to ever be awarded a Michelin star, who also temporarily relocated to L.A. to open the new osteria.
Set against the very-Gucci decor of red marble, plush velvet, antique mirrors, and ornately patterned wallpapers and floors, the menu will be Italian fare reinterpreted for sunny California. Look for farmers market-driven dishes, decadent pastas–and even a burger, because you obviously can’t have an L.A. restaurant without a burger.
The space seats only 50 guests at a time, spread over indoor dining room and outdoor rooftop patio areas. Once officially open, it will serve both lunch and dinner daily. Reservations will open to the public on the 17th.
Of course, not everyone had to wait until opening day to visit the Gucci Osteria. The space hosted a splashy pre-Oscars party, attended by Saoirse Ronan, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tessa Thompson, Tyler, the Creator, and other stars–all kitted out in Gucci duds, of course.
