Embark on a Luxury Train Journey through Spain

Travel in style through some of Spain’s most spectacular landscape on one of the world’s most exclusive trains. Whether traversing the mountainous countryside of the north or setting out on a journey through the Andalusian hills, each scenic train journey through Spain provides a five-star experience with an introduction to the region’s cuisine and fine wine.

By setting out on a journey from San Sebastián to Santiago de Compostela on the five-star El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo train in northern Spain, you can combine the gastronomy on board with a taste of the region’s celebrated restaurants. Following lunch and a tour of the Basque coastal town San Sebastián, guests are transferred to Bilbao where the El Transcantábrico is waiting. The train then winds its way through the countryside to Villasana de Mena where you’ll spend the night.

From there the journey continues through scenic landscape, stopping by Santander, the town of Potes, Cabezón de la Sal, Santillana del Mar, Arriondas, Oviedo and Candás, before continuing on to Avilés, Gijón, Luarca Ribadeo, Viveiro and the final port of call, Santiago de Compostela. Each step of the way, guests are introduced to the history, arts and gastronomy of the region, taking in sites such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and Altamira Neocave in Santillana del Mar, along with scenic spots such as Picos de Europa National Park and the spectacular beach of Las Catedrales. The eight-day tour comes to a close with a tour of the pilgrimage site, Santiago de Compostela.

As well as having some of the most celebrated chefs of northern Spain behind the dining experience on board, the train brings together personalized service and live entertainment with the comfort of its lavish interiors, making a journey on El Transcantábrico feel more like a luxury hotel stay.

An alternative route to set out on is the eight-day journey on board El Transcantábrico Clásico from León to Santiago de Compostela. While similarly placing the focus on the region’s gastronomy, history and arts, the itinerary takes in the sites of León, Cistierna, Guardo, Villasana de Mena and Bibao, through to Luarca, Ribadeo, Viviero and Santiago de Compostela with the landscape of northern Spain to revel in along the way.

An entirely different experience can then be had on the Al Andalus rail journey. On a seven-day trip through Andalusia, passengers travel between historic cities and towns such as Seville, Jerez, Ronda, Granada and Córdoba, with an introduction to Andalusian cuisine and the region’s most revered sites in the comfort of this luxury train.
