10 Projects that Will Transform State Island

A quick search on Brooklyn’s real estate will shock you with an average sales price of one million on the western end of Long Island. If you think Queens is any different, then you are wrong. The borough you should be taking an interest in is Staten Island!

In the imminent future, the borough’s North Shore will be undertaking a massive transformation. The appearance of one of the tallest observation wheels, Staten Island’s first outlet mall, Empire Outlets; and not to mention hundreds of new residential units.

Following are ten projects that are expected to transform Staten Island:

1. New York Wheel

The New York Wheel will debut in 2018, as one of the world’s tallest observation wheels. This mammoth 630-foot Marvel would be able to accommodate 1,440 people at a time.

2. Empire Outlets

NYC’s only outlet mall, Empire Outlets is located next to the New York Wheel and will bring a 190-room hotel, 100 stores, and many restaurants to Staten Island. The project also includes large food courts and outdoor space. The project is slated to finish next year.

3. Minthorne Street

A gigantic warehouse on Minthorne Street is all set to be transformed into a barbecue joint. This transformation will also create space for more shops in the building, which as of now is home to the Flagship Brewery. The developers are planning to jazz up this area into North Shore’s newest hot spot.

4. Staten Island Urby

Staten Island Urby is a mini neighborhood and one of the most premium projects on Staten Island in recent years. Urby comes with conveniences like a 5,000-foot-urban farm, a coffee shop, a restaurant and a swimming pool.

5. 80 Scarboro Avenue

Early in 2017, plans were filed for 80 Scarboro Avenue – a 72-unit building in Rosebank. The building will only entertain three stories, and an apartment on average will measure 980 square feet. Furthermore, a 69-car garage and a 16-car parking lot will be part of the amenities.

6. Mount Manresa Jesuit Retreat Redevelopment

Despite widespread community protest against the redevelopment of Mount Manresa Jesuit Retreat into a townhouse project, the undeterred developers filed plans in August 2016. At the point of writing construction has begun.

7. New York City Farm Colony

This ambitious project will restore many former New York City Farm Colony buildings to create 344 condos advertised towards New Yorkers over the age of 55 years.

8. Seaview Hospital

A vicinity neglected from years finally had its calling in 2016, when the city decided to transform Seaview Hospital into a health-focused development. The development plan includes a campus with housing, community farms, and outdoor areas to promote physical activity.

9. Freshkills Park

Freshkills Park was once the world’s largest landfill. Today, it is being transformed into a 2,200-acre park. Significantly, the playground, a ball field, and a large bicycle track are already open to the public. Upon completion, the park will feature five unique sections and will be about three times bigger than the Central Park.

10. Conference House Park

Conference House Park is under construction from years and is expected to finish by the end of 2017, finally. Upon completion, it will offer 4,200 square feet for events, concerts and weddings.
